Diaphragm Walls

Diaphragm Wall Construction

How are diaphragm walls constructed?

A diaphragm wall is built with single panels that are individually constructed as single elements which are then joined together. The panels are excavated one after another as slurry fluid is added to each pit. The reinforcement cages are then lowered down and the slurry fluid is pumped out as the concrete is added, both at the same flow rate.

What are the technical properties of diaphragm walls?

Diaphragm walls are constructed in sections called panels and are joined together underground. This requires a strong and tight seal between them. When these joints are subjected to a one-sided hydrostatic pressure, then the entire diaphragm wall (joints included) must be able to withstand this pressure.
