During the construction process, multiple panels are joined together to create a diaphragm wall. In order to create a tight and secure joint between these walls, end-stops are used to create this connection between the panels. Each company may have its own method depending on the forces acting on the wall and the resulting impact on the water-tight seal.
Reusable end-stopsReusable stop-ends, either with or without a water-stop, are the commonly used methods when constructing diaphragm walls. The end-stops are retrieved either vertically with a hydraulic press that pulls it directly upwards, or horizontally by using the grab to loosen it.
Lost End-stopLost end-stops have the advantage that they do not have to be pulled out vertically or horizontally, but instead they are just left in during and after the construction process. On the other hand, this means that excess concrete may run past the end-stop and require removal. Very often a special designed chisel for joints comes into action. Lost end-stops include steel end-stops and stop ends as pre-cast elements.
